The short version

1. Who we are
Betty Sky (including the Betty production desk and the Miss Sky composer portal) is run by Purplelf Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11251864). Our registered office is Mill Lane House, Mill Lane, Margate, CT9 1LB. We're registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under reference ZC283826.
In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Purplelf Limited. "You" means anyone who visits bettysky.com, uses Betty Sky or Miss Sky, or whose details are held in it. This policy covers bettysky.com and app.bettysky.com.
2. Our role: controller or processor
Betty Sky is used by music libraries, publishers and labels (our customers) to run their releases, and by the composers, producers and staff they work with.
- We are the controller for information about our website visitors, our customers' account holders, people who contact us, and how the service is used (for example, sign-in records and security logs).
- We act as a processor for our customers for the catalogue information they keep in Betty Sky: their releases, tracks, writers and splits, and the details of the composers and producers they work with. The library, publisher or label decides why and how that information is used and is responsible for it. If you're a composer and want to know how a particular library uses your details, please ask that library. We'll help them answer.
3. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and the desk or library you belong to.
- Composer and writer details (added by you in Miss Sky or by your library): legal name, pseudonyms, email, phone number, postal address (used on composer agreements), collecting society (PRO), IPI numbers, and writer splits.
- Your work: details of submissions and releases, track titles, metadata and lyrics, and the names and locations of files you send. The files themselves (audio, stems, artwork, lyrics, CATIs and contracts) are stored in your library's connected cloud storage, not on our servers.
- Messages: comments and messages between composers and libraries, and messages you send to us for support or feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Sign-in and security information: when you sign in, the times you sign in, and technical details such as IP address and browser type, kept in security and service logs.
- Activity in the service: who changed what and when (for example, a stage update or an approval), so libraries can see the history of their releases.
What we don't collect
We don't store composers' bank or card details, and we don't use advertising trackers. We don't collect special category information (such as health information), and we ask you not to put any into Betty Sky.
4. How we use it, and our lawful bases
| What we do | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Create and run your account, sign you in, and provide Betty Sky and Miss Sky | Contract, or our legitimate interests in providing the service to our customers and the people they invite |
| Send service emails: sign-in links, invitations, notifications and daily summaries | Contract / legitimate interests |
| Help our customers manage releases, writers and splits, and produce delivery paperwork (on their instructions) | Our customer's lawful basis; we act as their processor |
| Keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems | Legitimate interests |
| Answer questions, support requests and feedback | Legitimate interests |
| Keep business and accounting records, and meet legal obligations | Legal obligation |
| Tell you about new Betty Sky features or plans (only if you've registered interest or are a customer, and you can opt out any time) | Legitimate interests or consent, as the law requires |
5. Your music and AI
Composers and libraries own their music. Using Betty Sky doesn't transfer any rights to us (see our Terms). We don't use any audio, stems, lyrics, artwork or metadata sent through Betty Sky to train artificial intelligence models, and we don't allow our service providers to do so. Betty Sky's core features work without any AI. If we add optional AI tools in future (for example, help with tagging), we'll say so clearly, they'll be switched off unless a library chooses to use them, and they'll be set up so your music isn't used for training.
6. Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only as follows.
- Within the service: composers see their own submissions, projects and messages. A library sees the details of its own composers and releases. Composers only see other composers' tracks on a shared project if the library or the composer has chosen to share them.
- Our service providers (processors), who act only on our instructions and under contracts that protect your information:
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and secure sign-in | Ireland (EU) |
| Vercel | Hosting the website and app | Dublin, Ireland (EU); a US company |
| Resend | Sending emails (sign-in links, invitations, notifications) | Ireland (EU); a US company |
| GitHub (Microsoft) | Storing our code and encrypted, private database backups | United States |
| Dropbox and Google Drive | File storage that a library connects to its own desk. Files stay in the library's own account under its own agreement with that provider. | As set by the library's account |
| Google Fonts | Supplying the typeface on bettysky.com (your browser requests it from Google) | Global |
- When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.
- If our business changes hands: if Purplelf or Betty Sky is sold or merged, information may pass to the new owner, who must keep protecting it in line with this policy.
7. Where it's stored
We keep our database in the European Union (Ireland), which the UK recognises as giving adequate protection. Some of our providers are US companies, and backups are held in the United States. Where information goes outside the UK, we rely on the protections UK law allows, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- Account and catalogue information: for as long as the account or the library's desk is active. Releases, writers and splits are long-term catalogue records that libraries rely on for royalties and registrations, so libraries usually keep them for as long as the music is published.
- When an account or desk closes: we delete or anonymise its information within 90 days, unless the customer asks us to return it first or we must keep something by law (for example, accounting records, usually six years).
- Backups: nightly database backups are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- Security logs: kept for a limited period (usually no more than 12 months).
- Files in a library's Dropbox or Google Drive stay in the library's account. Deleting them is up to the library.
9. Keeping it safe
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure sign-in (composers sign in with one-time links or codes, and passwords are never stored in readable form), access rules in the database so each person only sees what they're allowed to, and encryption for the keys that connect a library's cloud storage. Only a small number of people at Purplelf can access the systems, and only when they need to. No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong, we'll act quickly and tell the ICO and anyone affected when the law requires it.
10. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your information (access);
- have inaccurate information corrected (composers can update their postal address in Miss Sky at any time);
- have your information deleted, where we have no good reason to keep it;
- restrict or object to how we use it, including objecting to any marketing at any time;
- receive your information in a portable format (composers can download their released tracks from Miss Sky as Excel, CSV or JSON); and
- withdraw consent, where we rely on consent.
To use any of these rights, email hello@bettysky.com. We'll reply within one month. If your request is about information a library holds about you, we'll pass it to that library and help them respond.
11. Cookies
We keep cookies to the minimum needed to make the service work.
- bettysky.com (this website) doesn't set any cookies. Your browser fetches our typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address.
- app.bettysky.com (Betty and Miss Sky) uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in securely. Without them you can't sign in, so they don't need your consent. The app also uses your browser's session storage to remember small things, such as which album list you were looking at, until you close the tab.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If that ever changes, we'll ask for your consent first and update this policy.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but you won't be able to stay signed in to the app.
12. Children
Betty Sky and Miss Sky are for adults (18 and over) working in music. We don't knowingly collect information about children. If you think a child has given us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Betty Sky grows. We'll change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect.
14. Contact and complaints
For any privacy question or request, email hello@bettysky.com or write to Purplelf Limited, Mill Lane House, Mill Lane, Margate, CT9 1LB.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113.
